Last week the British literary magazine Granta announced the twenty-one writers named to its second list of the best young American novelists. Four of these writers, Daniel Alarcón, Yiyun Li, Kevin Brockmeier, and Z.Z. Packer, are graduates of the Iowa Writers' Workshop; Li also earned an M.F.A. from the Nonfiction Writing Program.
Issue 97 of the magazine, 'Best of Young American Novelists 2,' will be devoted to their new work. The publication is a significant landmark in contemporary fiction, a showcase for new talent that provides insight into "what bothers and inspires the imagination of modern America."
