Applying for the Iowa Writer's Workshop
Each year the Workshop faculty selects a class of fiction writers and poets from a large and impressive pool of applicants. The manuscript is by far the most important part of any application. We do not look for any particular style of writing, but rather for strong work that shows evidence of talent and individuality. The Workshop is committed to a diverse educational environment." more info...

Applying for the International Writing Program
Since 1967, over a thousand writers from more than 120 countries have attended the IWP at the University of Iowa. The project is designed for established and emerging creative writers — poets, fiction writers, dramatists, and non-fiction writers. The minimum requirement is that they have published at least one book, and that they possess sufficient proficiency in English to profit from the Iowa experience.
There is no application to attend the International Writing Program. Instead, the program accepts nominations from potential sources of funding support. We also accept self-nominations in some cases. Nominees must possess the qualifications noted in this year’s program description. more info...
