Panel Discussion Harb, Kho’i, Pom, and Mahadev
Palestinian author Ahmad Harb shares his observations of three different forms of censorship experienced by Palestinian writers: military censorship, censorship by the publishing industry, and self-censorship. Ismail Kho’i describes the political and social conditions in which censorship emerges. He compares his experiences of censorship under the Shah of Iran and the Ayatollah Khomeni, experiences which led to his self-imposed exile. Tae-sun Pom describes how the literary arts survived and emerged from the political turmoil of Korea in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Devanur Mahadev discusses the Indian government’s efforts to censor the film industry. A brief Q&A session follows.
