IWP participants Lilia Momplé and Kuamvi Mawule Kuakuvi interview each other.  Each share why they write: Lilia Momplé was inspired by her grandmother’s traditional stories, and writes to speak out on social issues.  Kuamvi Mawulé Kuakuvi writes to share his knowledge, insights and beliefs with others.  They discuss the multi-racial culture of Mozambique and race-related problems associated with the Portugese occupation of Mozambique and the French occupation of Togo.  They each share how their work, which addresses colonialism and racism, has been received by local and international audiences.  They discuss the practices of Catholicism, Animism, and polygamy in Africa.  Lilia Momplé reads a selection of her work in Portugese; Kuamvi Mawule Kuakuvi reads a selection of his work in French.
