The recording begins near the end of Palestinian author Riyād Baydas’ presentation on his literary aesthetic.  Boey Kim Cheng describes the politics of language in his polyglot homeland, which influenced his gravitation towards English-language poets like T.S. Eliot, Gerard Manley Hopkins. and Seamus Heaney.  Helena Sinervo maps the influence of Finnish poet Julia Kristeva to her own work.  Lyonel Trouillot focuses on the writer’s ability to subvert social order. Only the first half of his presentation was recorded.  A brief question and answer session followS, and the authors respond to questions about the viability of “national literatures.”
