Clark Blaise interviews György Spiró, a novelist and playwright from Hungary. Spiró was ten years old at the time of the Hungarian Revolution in 1956 and talks about his life during that time. Before deciding to be a writer, he had contemplated being a musician or a physicist. Spiró has translated many Polish plays into Hungarian with intentions to expose Hungarians to a culture that is different from their own. It wasn’t until Spiró learned to make compromises that he was able to get his plays staged and from there able to become successful at being a playwright.
