1994 IWP Prairie Lights Reading

This tape consists of several different clips taken from other IWP television programs.  It includes short clips both of writers discussing their work and their writing styles.  These seven writers are featured in personal interviews, readings, and public presentations. Starting the tape is a reading from Ambrose Massaquoi at Prairie Lights.  Seona Smiles of Fiji describes the South Pacific publishing industry and the difficulty faced in garnering interest from a commercial publisher.  Seung Ja Choi shows her six published works and talks about how and when they were published and reprinted.  She discusses her profession as a translator of poetry.  Jerzy Pilch discusses his writing process, motivation for writing, and how the Polish revolution changed his writing.  Osama Isber talks about a work he is translating and some of the other translations he has done.  Helena Sinervo talks about her work and the difficulty of its English translation.  She also talks about her daily schedule in Iowa and how the library is her favorite place to work.  The end of the tape includes a presentation given to the 1994 program participants by an editor of a journal and includes clips from a panel on post-modernism that some of the participants took part in.
