Acupuncture. Meditation. Herbs. Hypnosis. Chiropractic care. All are different from traditional approaches to healing, but almost 40% of US adults are using some sort of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). CAM is a group of diverse medical and health care systems, practices, and products that are not generally considered part of conventional medicine. Join Dr. Nicole Nisly to discuss commonly utilized CAM therapies and best practices. She will also provide participants with reliable resources for information on using alternative medicine. INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Nicole Nisly is clinical professor in the department of Internal Medicine. Her clinical interests include patient education in diet and life-style changes in prevention and treatment of disease, and patient's and physician's use of alternative and complementary medicine treatment. Her research interests include prevalence of use of alternative medicine in Iowa and the United States, benefits and side effects of use of herbal therapies, and the mechanism of action, efficacy and safety of various forms of alternative and complementary medicine. $10 per lecture for lunch | |
