Course Details:
         This six-week course will focus on reading the translation of the Qur’an and understanding the message behind it. The course seeks to further understanding of the basic commonalities of the great Abrahamic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam as depicted in the Qur’an from historical as well as theological perspective. During this class you will read The Message of the Qur’an, by Muhammed Asad; In Pursuit of Justice (Jurisprudence of Human Rights in Islam), by M Hathout; and Jihad vs. Terrorism, by M. Hathout.

INSTRUCTOR: Shams M Ghoneim was born and raised a Muslim in Cairo, Egypt and has been in Iowa City since 1967. She is an UI Alumnus, a 31-year researcher at the colleges of Dentistry and Medicine, and a recent retiree. She is the Coordinator of the IA Chapter of the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC-IA), EXC member of the local Iowa City Mosque, Former President of the Consultation of JC Religious Communities(CRC),Co-Chair of HARRT-Hate Actions Rapid Response Team, EXC member of ACLU-IA, and a member of the UI Speakers Bureau on Islam.
